Roger Maris Biography
Roger Maris was an American Major League Baseball player who in 1961 hit 61 home runs, breaking Babe Ruth's record of 60. Maris' record stood for 37 years until 1998, when Mark McGwire hit his 62nd home run of the season. Maris entered the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 1957 and then played for the New York Yankees (1960-65). He was also an exceptional defensive outfielder.
