A powerful baseline player whose game is built around her potent serve and forehand, Julia Goerges has posted her best results on clay where she's won both of her tournament titles. She won her first WTA Premier-level tournament at the 2011 Stuttgart event, upsetting Samantha Stosur and No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the final to become the first German to win Stuttgart since Anke Huber in 1994. She beat Wozniacki again en route to the Madrid semifinals. Goerges won 15 of 18 clay-court matches she played during the '11 spring clay-court season. Aside from tennis, Goerges' favorite sport is the biathlon, she calls herself a "biathlon freak."
