Lucie Safarova Biography
Czech lefty Lucie Safarova has captured four career singles titles and was a member of the Czech Republic's 2011 Fed Cup championship squad. The aggressive baseliner played her way to a breakthrough year in 2007, earning her best Grand Slam results by advancing to the Australian Open quarterfinals. That year, she advanced to the final at the Paris Indoors, defeating Top 10 players Nicole Vaidisova, Justine Henin and Svetlana Kuznetsova en route to the championship match. Safarova attained a career-high ranking of No. 22 in August, 2007. In 2011, Safarova was runner-up in Kuala Lumpur and Copenhagen, where she lost to top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the final. In April, 2012, Safarova reached the singles and doubles finals in Charleston, losing to Serena Williams in singles and winning the doubles with partner Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Safarova began playing tennis at three and also enjoys swimming and playing basketball and table tennis.
